The Cod Hole was first made famous by Rod & Valerie Taylor. You can still see the giant potato cod (up to 30kg) hand fed by the divemasters on every trip. The Ribbon Reefs run parallel to the coastline and offer a huge range of stunning dive sites. These reefs are visited by fewer operators then the Outer Barrier Reef and as such are in pristine condition.
Trip duration is 4 or 5 days (usually 1 day is spent travelling).

Dive Directory can book you with any of 4 reputable companies operating from Cairns. Due to the extended travelling on these trips, all the companies offer a maximum of 2 departures a week.

Both Mike Ball, Spirit of Freedom and Nimrod incorporate a spectacular low level scenic flight at either the begining or end of your trip, depending on which itinerary you choose. The flights are between Cairns/Cooktown (Nimrod) or Cairns/Lizard Island (Mike Ball & Spirit of Freedom).

Taka departs from and return to Cairns, so you spend the entire time on the vessel.
