The Company

Mike Ball Dive Expeditions is one of the premier liveaboard operators on the Great Barrier Reef. This owner-operated company has been taking divers onto the reef since 1969. They are well known on the international dive scene, and have won numerous awards for their service. These include awards for their environmental awareness, food, and for their overall operations.

The Diving / snorkelling

In 1989 storm damage from Cyclone Joy caused us to abandon our Cairns Coral Sea itinerary. The recovery of Osprey Reef now sees that decision reversed with Spoilsport moving to Cairns. The new 7 night Coral Sea Safari zeroes in on the best Great Barrier Reef and Coral Sea sites north of Cooktown. Divers can break the itinerary in half at Lizard Island or do the north and south itineraries with no repeat dive sites except the Cod Hole.

Spoilsport will have it’s extensive annual refit prior to its first Fly Dive Coral Sea expedition on March 16, 2006. Improvements include: new quieter main engines, new Bauer compressors and Nitrox upgrade plus new lounge suites and twin plasma entertainment systems. A new customer care program and menus will add to this exciting new era in Mike Ball Dive Expeditions.

A special bonus with your ‘Fly Dive’ participation is you experience one of the worlds most spectacular low-level reef flights and see stunning views of the Great Barrier Reef. The Ribbon Reefs run parallel to the coastline and offer a huge range of stunning dive sites. These reefs are visited by fewer operators then the Outer Barrier Reef and as such are in pristine condition.

• Fly Dive Cod Hole - 3 night (Southbound, 3 Nights)
  Fly up, dive back
  Departs: Monday - 7am, Cairns Colonial Club. Transfer to Airport.
  Return: Thursday - 10am, Marlin Jetty.

• Fly Dive Coral Sea - 4 night (Northbound, 4 Nights)
  Dive up, Fly back
  Departs: Thursday - 7pm, Marlin Jetty, Cairns .
  Return: Monday - 11am, Cairns . (courtesy city hotel transfers)

The Vessel

Spoilsport has been honoured with more excellence awards than any other liveaboard dive vessel in the area. Supersport is very spacious and stable with a very large well-equipped dive deck as well as a very spacious sundeck, al fresco deck and saloon.
